Peoria Priest Arrested For Making Date-Rape Drug.

DAVENPORT, Iowa, Jan 30, 02 (CWNews.com) - A priest of the Diocese of Peoria was arrested last Friday on charges of making and distributing the "date-rape" drug GHB, along with two other men.

Father Jeffrey Windy, 31, was assigned to St. Patrick's Church in Sheffield, Illinois, and St. Margaret Mary's in Wyanet. The other two men arrested were Timothy O'Brien and Bradley Bush, both of Davenport.

Court documents showed that Windy and O'Brien were seen making the drug at O'Brien's house last May and that undercover narcotics agents allegedly bought the drug from O'Brien. The documents also said 25 gallons of a solvent used to make GHB were sold to St. Patrick's Church. The Diocese of Peoria said Windy had been suspended pending the outcome of the case.

GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, is known as a date-rape drug for its ability to incapacitate people and leave them vulnerable to sexual assault. It is also used as a hallucinogen and to stimulate muscle growth in bodybuilders.
