Visitors from the East (동방박사의 방문) - The Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 2,1-12)

 

 

1 Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod[herəd] was king. Soon afterward(뒤에, 그 후), some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem

 

예수께서 헤로데 왕 때에 유다 베들레헴에서 나셨는데, 그 때에 동방에서 박사들이 예루살렘에 와서

 

 

 

2 and asked, "Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews(유대인)? We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him."

 

“유다인의 왕으로 나신 분이 어디 계십니까? 우리는 동방에서 그 분의 별을 보고 그 분에게 경배하러 왔습니다.” 하고 말하였다.

 

 

3 When King Herod heard about this, he was very upset(당황하게하다), and so was everyone else in Jerusalem.

 

이 말을 듣고 헤로데왕이 당황한 것은 물론, 예루살렘이 온통 술렁거렸다.

 

 

 

4 He called together all the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and asked them, "Where will the Messiah[misaiə] be born?"

 

왕은 백성의 대사제들과 율법학자들을 다 모아놓고 그리스도께서 나실 곳이 어디냐고 물었다.

 

 

5 "In the town of Bethlehem[beɵlihem] in Judea[ʤu:di:ə]," they answered. "For this is what the prophet wrote:

 

그들은 이렇게 대답하였다. “유다베들레헴입니다. 예언서의 기록을 보면,

 

 

6 'Bethlehem in the land of Judah[ʤu:də], you are by no means(결코~아니다, not at all) the least of the leading cities of Judah for from you will come a leader who will guide my people Israel[izrꐅəl].'"

 

 ‘유다의 땅 베들레헴아, 너는 결코 유다의 땅에서 가장 작은 고을이 아니다. 내 백성 이스라엘의 목자가 될 영도자가 너에게서 나리라.’ 고 하였습니다.

 

 

 

7 So Herod called the visitors from the East to a secret meeting and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.

 

그 때에 헤로데가 동방에서 온 박사들을 몰래 불러 별이 나타난 때를 정확히 알아보고

 

 

8 Then he sent them to Bethlehem with these instruction(교훈, 가르침): "Go and make a careful search for the child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship him."

 

그들을 베들레헴으로 보내면서 “가서 그 아기를 잘 찾아 보시오. 나도 가서 경배할 터이니 찾거든 알려주시오.” 하고 부탁하였다.

 

 

9-10 And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

 

왕의 부탁을 듣고 박사들은 길을 떠났다. 그 때 동방에서 본 그 별이 그들을 앞서 가다가 마침내 그 아기가 있는 곳 위에 이르러 멈추었다. 이를 보고 그들은 대단히 기뻐하면서

 

 

 

11 They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt[nelt](kneel[ni:l]의 과거, 과거분사) down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense[fræŋkinsens](유향), and myrrh[mə:r](몰약), and presented them to him.

 

그 집에 들어가 어머니 마리아와 함께 있는 아기를 보고 엎드려 경배하였다. 그리고 보물상자를 열어 황금과 유향과 몰약을 예물로 드렸다.

 

12 Then they returned to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.

 

 

박사들은 꿈에 헤로데에게로 돌아 가지 말라는 하느님의 지시를 받고 다른 길로 자기 나라에 돌아갔다.

아직 중학생들에게는 영어 성경이 어려운가 봅니다.

지난 주에는 논문 주제때문에 머리 아파 하면서 시간을 보내느라

강론 준비도 자연스럽게 소홀하게 되고,

영어 성경 준비도 제대로 못했습니다.

5시 반에 시작하는데,

4시 반에서야 겨우 타이핑을 마칠 수 있었습니다.

미리 준비하지 못해서,

아이들과 함께 오늘 성경 읽는 것도 쉽지가 않더군요.

몇 몇 아이들은 여전히 떠들고,...

그래도,

제가 참 인내력이 많이 늘었다는 생각이 듭니다.

몇 몇 아이들 끝나자 마자 물고기방으로 가 버렸고,

대다수 남은 아이들과 함께 라면먹게 하고,

같이

살인배구도 했습니다.

몇 안되는 시간이었지만,

그 순간만큼은 그래도 행복한 시간이었습니다.

4시간 잠자고,

오늘 하루 종일 움직이느라

힘들었던 심신을 쉬게하고,

인제서야
숨을 돌려봅니다.

일주일에 한 번 볼 얼굴들을

오늘 한꺼번에 보려니

힘들긴 힘드네요...
